Packing tips for moving home

Moving home is a very exciting and stressful time. What helps to make your move as easy possible is planning. We listed some of our tips to help you pack up and move with ease.

Start early

The first thing you want to think about is what you want to take with you. Chances are there will be many things you will not want to or be able to bring with you. Review your home, room by room deciding what you no longer use and will only add clutter to your new home. This is also a good time to review anything old or broken. When you are moving into your new home you may want new furniture as you decorate the new space. During this time you can sell anything you do not want to bring with you. You can then add the money you make from the sales to help cover your moving costs.

Don’t over pack

Although it is tempting to pack as much as you can into each box consider how heavy each item is. To go from one house to the other each box is going to have to be lifted. You don’t want to risk a back injury or items falling through the boxes on moving day. One helpful tip is to pack light items in big boxes and heavier items in smaller boxes.

Label your boxes

When you pack it’s easy to think of packing each box as a game of Tetris finding anything that fits to fill the space but consider packing by room instead. This will save a lot of hassle when it comes to unpacking in your new home. If you pack your boxes by room whoever is helping you unpack will know exactly where to take your boxes without interrupting you from whatever task you are doing on moving day.

Take photos

When it comes to electronic cables sometimes it’s hard to remember where everything goes. Taking photos of things like the back of your TV or music system will help you rewire everything quickly and easily in your new home. You can also use this for any displays, ornaments, shelves or kids rooms. Helping to make sure things are just how you and your family like it when you arrive.

Think heavy

Load heavy items first. By loading your heavier items first you will ensure no fragile and lighter items will be crushed during your move.
