You can exchange your money at any bank. There are also exchange booths located in many areas, including shopping malls.

Most people pay by cash, but debit and credit cards are also accepted in places such as grocery stores.

Will I be able to use my credit card around town? If not, list when I’ll need cash.

In a capital city like Bangkok and other big cities that are key tourist destinations, you can use your credit card in most places without problems, but do note that most places accept only Visa and MasterCard.

It is possible to arrange automatic payment from your bank account through your property management office.

What are the requirements for opening a bank account? At what stage of the settling-in process should I open it?

You will need to have an original passport and original work permit with an initial cash deposit at a minimum of 500 Baht. The amount you will need to deposit varies, depending on local or international bank like Citibank, Standard Chartered Bank or United Overseas Bank.

What are typical banking hours?

In general, banks are open from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Monday through Friday. However, there are also bank branches in places, such as department stores, that keep weekend hours.
