Is there a lot of competition for spots in international schools?

Although Johor Bahru offers a diversity of international schools, the competition for places is a challenge. Submitting an application as early as possible is advisable.


Are pre-schools also widely available (for children 5 years old and below)?

Yes, most children attend two years of pre-school, usually at four years of age, before going to primary school. Pre-schools are also known are kindergartens, 'kindys' or nursery school.
Most residential communities will have local playgroups for young children. Expat associations will offer information on local playgroups and other activities of interest for children.


How are most kids transported to and from school?

School bus or private car. Most of the International Schools provides shutter bus service on all major residential areas. Please check with your child's school regarding shutter bus fees and schedules.


When does the typical school year start and end?

That depends upon the curriculum or program offered. Please refer to the school's website for more details.


Is there anything else I should know about international schools?

It is best to secure a space at your chosen school before relocating.
