Discuss any safety issues for children in this city.

Safety issues for children in the Metroplex are quite similar to those in other large cities. Note that some areas of the Metroplex have instituted curfews for children under 16 years old. Many neighborhoods also have police that patrol local streets and keep watch over children and adults alike.

There is also a nationwide cartoon character named McGruff The Crime Dog that teaches children about safety issues. Parents are always cautioned to keep a watchful eye on their children when at local shopping malls, parks and public facilities.

What's it like to be a teenager in this city? Are there any particular challenges I should be aware of as a parent?

It can be a very fun and exciting experience for teenagers living in the Metroplex. A lot of teenagers are involved in after-school programs relating to sports and special-interest clubs. In addition, a good part of a local teenager's life revolves around the neighborhood they live in and the school they attend.

Teens are allowed to drive in Texas when they are 16, which is quite different than in many foreign countries. Parents should keep in mind that this will give teenagers greater independence from parent transport and school buses at an earlier age.
