How close-knit is the expat community in this area? How do I get involved with it?
As Germany is a modern, western country, expatriates generally blend into the normal flow of people moving around town.

Networking is best accomplished in business groups and at expat events arranged through such organizations as the American Chamber of Commerce and a number of smaller groups that meet on a regular basis.

The American Women’s Club of the Taunus and the British Club of the Taunus present a more social approach for women in the region. Events are published on their web sites.
The Frankfurt International Ski Club offers a number of weekend ski trips that unite ski bums and novices for weekend adventures in the Alps.

International churches are also a great place for finding like-minded groups with international ties.
Trinity Lutheran Church and Christ the King Anglican Church are two examples, though there are many more.
