To open a bank account you need to provide the following:
- Passport
- Visa
- White entry card or clear entry stamp
- Proof of residency
For example, you may present a telephone or utility bill.
The amount required for the initial deposit will vary depending on the account type and the bank.
Accounts are easy to open, though you should do this as quickly after arrival as possible.

What are typical banking hours?
Banks are usually open from 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. from Monday to Friday and 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. on Saturday. The automatic teller machines (ATMs) are available for after-hours withdrawals.

US dollars can be used and changed everywhere, but Vietnamese Dong (VND) cannot be used or changed outside the country.
