What are the items that I should bring with me because they’re not available (or are too expensive) where I am going?
Deodorant is difficult to find and shops do not offer a great selection of western CDs and books, so it is a good idea to bring a sufficient supply of these items, as well as any medicines you or your family use.

Will anyone have particular trouble finding clothes that fit?
International supermarkets and stores, such as Jusco and Wal-Mart, have now opened in Shenzhen. These stores, however, carry items suited for the local market. So, it is still hard to find coats, shirts or trousers to fit big or tall people, since generally Chinese people are smaller than western people. Similarly, if you have large feet, bring a sufficient supply of shoes; it is practically impossible to find shoes larger than sizes 43 or 44 (US men's size 10 or 11, UK men's size 9.5). Many foreign residents have their clothes made by the many good tailors available in the area, but it extremely difficult to find a shoemaker to make large-sized shoes.

What are factors that might affect my shopping habits in this country/city?
Some expatriates are surprised by the crowds and noise in stores, especially on the weekends. Large stores like Carrefour, Wal-Mart and ParknShop, as well as local supermarkets, can become excessively crowded and nerve-wracking, so it may be more comfortable to shop at off-peak times. ParknShop tends to be a bit more expensive and therefore less crowded.
