    Congratulations. Now make them proud!

Whether your existing company is asking you to relocate or you’ve been head-hunted from overseas, you’re already ahead of the game. With an instant income, familiar colleagues and new social life, you’ll find it easier to settle-in. But be sure  you get the legals sorted.
Even if you’re going abroad as an employee for a UK based firm your employment rights may change. Working hours, annual holidays, public holidays and the currency of your pay will vary from country to country. Don’t forget to let HM Revenue and Customs (HMRC) know you will be working overseas. Visit the HMRC website for more information.
If you’re taking your family with you, consider your spouse and his or her career. Find out if your employer can help with school fees or finding a suitable family home in your new destination. If you’re going solo, ask if there is an allowance available for travel to and from the UK.
Here are a few things to consider when looking at the package you’ve been offered:
    • Will your spouse be able to work?
    • How much will the salary really be worth when you consider the cost of living in your new city?
    • What currency will you be paid in?
    • Will you receive an allowance for travel back to the UK to see friends and family or help with school fees?
    • What would happen if you left the job – could you legally find another job locally and how easy would it be?
