Perth offers child and day care centers throughout the metropolitan suburbs. All major department stores and shopping complexes feature facilities for babies and younger children, such as diaper changing and feeding rooms. All suburbs have maintained parks or playgrounds for children. Kings Park is a very large park overlooking the city and Swan River and has various playgrounds and activities for children.

Perth is a safe environment for children, though it is recommended that you speak to your local school to determine if there are any concerns specific to your area. Bike helmets are compulsory when riding a bicycle at any age and normal supervision of children is required.

What are the most popular kid-friendly attractions in the area?
Perth Zoo, movie theatres, Western Australian Museum, The Art Gallery of Western Australia, Scitech Discovery Center, Adventure World. A day trip to Rottnest Island is a great day out. There are also water theme parks that are very popular in summer.

Schools provide after-school activities, such as sporting events, arts and drama classes. Perth weather provides the perfect environment for outdoor lifestyles in the warmer months and a favorite pastime is going to the beach or local pool.

What's it like to be a teenager in this city? Are there any particular challenges I should be aware of as a parent?
The drinking age is 18.
Driving age: you can apply for a learner's permit at 16 and a driver's license at 17.
