Top five apps for keeping in touch with loved ones

We know that being away from loved ones can be difficult, thankfully we live in a time where technology can help bridge the distance gap. We’ve put together a list of some of our favourite apps that we’ve been using to stay connected.

Among Us


For those looking for a change from online family quizzing, why not try some online gaming? The newest entry into the app market is Among Us, an online multiplayer social deduction game. Taking place in a space-themed setting, players take on one of two roles, “crewmates” or “imposters”. The objective of the game is for crewmates to complete a set of tasks while deducing who the imposters are before being eliminated. Join the fun with your friends and family; work together or against each other in this fun game.  

Messenger Rooms


Video calling is a must for many people who want to maintain contact with loved ones. New to the mix this year is Facebook’s Messenger Rooms. A rival to Zoom, here you can create a group or ‘room’ for your family and friends to enter. You can host up to 50 people and the added benefit is there is no time limit on call hosting. Perfect for any virtual celebrations or quiz night fun. 

Snapchat


Friends and family can share instant photos and videos with each other, sharing memories and even being able to play games together. After 24 hours photos, videos and messages will delete off your profile if not saved meaning you don’t have to clutter up your phone with every single picture and video. But don’t worry! if you want to keep these photos you are able to store them on the Snapchat could in your “memories” where you can instantly access them directly from the app.

HouseParty 


If you’re not familiar with the app, it allows you to video chat with up to eight people at once and play virtual games such as Heads Up! and Quick Draw. Whether you want to play games or just chat this is a great way to keep connected. Many people have been creative and are using this to host virtual group activities such as dinner parties and game nights. If you’re looking for a fun and interactive way to all get together, this may be the one for you!

Do you miss binge watching the latest box sets with your friends? Well, now you can watch TV in sync with friends and family no matter where you are! Whether you want to stream Netflix or Disney Plus you can through using the Google Chrome extension: Teleparty. Just download this app straight from the Chrome Store to your desktop or pc, and you have get back to movie marathoning with your friends. This is a great way to keep up with loved ones and your favourite TV shows.
