“The Light Town” (so-called because of the city's long association with Philips) is 125 kilometers away from the Netherlands' capital, Amsterdam. Both modern and green, Eindhoven is filled with parks and has nature reserves, cycling and hiking routes and holiday resorts all on its doorstep.

Home to many different sports, the city's most famous sporting export is probably its football team, PSV Eindhoven. Swimming and horse riding have long been favourite pastimes, and the residents of Eindhoven also have access to hockey fields, ice rinks, an indoor ski and snowboarding center and a breath-taking golf course.

The less athletically-minded needn't despair; Eindhoven is also renowned for its great shopping - boasting top designer boutiques, specialist shops and weekly markets, to name but a few.
