New Delhi Shopping

What are the items that I should bring with me because they’re not available (or are too expensive) where I am going?
The supermarket concept is growing and most leading brands are easily available. However, the traditional way to shop is by going to the local market where you should be able to find all your necessities.
You may still want to consider carrying infant food items and medicines for immediate use. Most of the imported items are available in Delhi NCR in specific stores. Quite a few gourmet stores and international supermarkets, such as Spencer’s and Le Marche, have come up in the city. They stock most imported products and you may also be able to order some products by request.

Will anyone have particular trouble finding clothes that fit?
This shouldn't be a problem because clothes are available all over in a variety of sizes and shapes.
The city's many glitzy shopping malls - Promenade, Ambience, Select City Walk, Emporio, etc. - should have clothes to fit all shapes and sizes available. These malls have several floors of modern stores, together with restrooms, cash points, food courts and restaurants, and generally good amenities. Specialty stores like ALL (A Little Large) and PLUS cater to plus-sized customers. Above all, tailoring is cheap in Delhi and there are many renowned tailors available at a very reasonable price, so getting something custom-made for you can also be considered.

What grocery stores do expats in your city shop at?
Supermarkets have developed on a fairly large scale in Delhi NCR. These stores sell most varieties of processed and packaged foods available. And gourmet specialty stores, such as Spencers, Le Marche, Nature's Basket, etc., cater to specific needs with a lot of imported shopping items in stock.
You can buy cosmetics, soap, toothpaste, toilet paper, tissues, foil wrap, detergent, cleaners, bug sprays, etc.
Residential areas also have a local market where you can buy groceries. Some expats employ domestic staff to do the shopping for them because they know their way around the local markets. Alternatively, you can also order from online retail and grocery stores like BigBasket, Grofers or Amazon

Where can other household items (such as cleaning materials and home furnishings) be found?
A lot of international brands are now entering the Indian retail market and there is hardly anything that you will not find available in the market. Some items might require a bit of searching, but you can usually find what you need. Most of the supermarkets mentioned above have a section for cleaning materials, including imported detergent, dishwasher soap, etc. For home furnishings, readymade stores are plentiful; if required, you can select the material and have items tailor-made. Designer furnishings stores are all over the city, so it should be pretty easy to find things you like. These items can be also ordered from online retail and grocery stores like BigBasket, Grofers or Amazon

What are factors that might affect my shopping habits in this country/city?
You may not find all the same brands that you are used to from back home. However, most well-known brands are available in India and there are some national brands that may be equivalent to the brands that you have used previously. Talk to friends or colleagues about the brands that they are using.
