Tips for a successful moving abroad

Moving to a new location is usually an exciting experience. However, without a good preparation in advance can be really stressful.

Here are some tips that you might consider in order to prepare your relocation successfully to your new location.

Removalist and Pre-move consultation

Look for removalists that will give you a free commitment for a pre-move session. They will clarify you the whole process and services that are existing to help you plan and prepare your complete relocation process.

  • Packing
  • Transportation, shipping and storage
  • Special requirements for vehicles, pets, and fragile items (i.e. instruments)
  • Insurance transit protection
  • Tracking of your household goods

Your moving consultant will help you decide the best services according to your needs.

The moving Day

On the packing day, make sure that you confirm with the packing crew or supervisor the exact details and processes for the day. Make sure that you have easy access to important items during your relocation and put aside important documents ( passport, medical records, photographs…), garments, toiletries and other essentials. Find a specific location for these personal items and explain to the packing crew that these items should not be packed. In fact having them “off-site” is a way to be certain no items are wrongly packed.

Transit protection options

You should know of all the transit protection choices you have and make sure that you know which insurance company supports the policy .The policy you sign for should offer full replacement cost coverage on a door-to-door, all-risks basis.

Make sure to have it signed and given back to your moving company  in advance to your moving day.

Select the best shipping method

Shipping by sea is an economical option that works well for most customers. Sea options include a number of methods:

  • Direct Container is when you need your household goods to be carried into your own protected sea container.
  • The Liftvan system is loaded at your home and liftvans are located directly into containers. This is the best option if you need storage.
  • Air Shipping will get your belongings to your new destination more quickly, but it will be more expensive.
  • Land shipments are frequently used when moving domestically or to a place with easily access over land.
  • Groupage Method joins your shipment with others and save money, although you will need to be flexible in the delivery timing.

Receiving Your Belongings

As soon as you arrive in your new location, you should contact your local moving company. It is easier only to deal with one company as they take full responsibility for the move from beginning to end. They should be able to quickly update you on:

  • the status and exact delivery date of your belongings
  • local storage options
  • details of your pet’s transfer
  • orientation tours and other relocation services you need

If you need help with your relocation don’t hesitate to contact our local moving experts.
