There's no better time for a new beginning

Where to spend your retirement years? Many locations throughout Canada and in foreign countries have been featured on lists of ideal places to retire based on their low costs of living and inviting weather. Whether you want to retire by the beach, in the mountains or in a vibrant city, there are a number of things to consider.

Budget is probably the most important factor. What sources of income will you have, and will you be able to live comfortably in your desired location? How will taxes affect you? Will you have the same government benefits? Where will you get your health care, and how will you pay for it? If you have serious or chronic medical conditions, will you be able to access quality specialised care easily?

If moving abroad, also research the legal requirements of your destination. Does the country have special provisions for retirees? Do you need a visa or other legal documentation to live there?

The Internet is a great source of information about retirement spots, including pros and cons, personal reviews, and forums where you can ask questions and get in touch with others who have retired abroad.
