Transit Protection

Peace of mind was never so easy to arrange

We try hard to prevent damage to your property, but sometimes things are beyond our control, and accidents do occasionally occur.

Employees are always careful and professional when handling your things during transit and storage. While we’re proud to have one of the best records for claim-free relocations in the industry, it is important to recognise that there are still risks. This is why we offer comprehensive transit protection with policies that offer full replacement cost coverage on an ‘all risks’ basis.

It is extremely unlikely that your current personal belongings insurer will provide you with protection against the risks associated with moving. CrownCare Transit Protection plan is designed to provide the coverage you need against the risks associated with shipment by road, rail, ship or air.

Crown’s crews are trained to exercise care and treat our customers with utmost respect and professionalism when packing, transporting, delivering and unpacking its customers’ personal belongings. We are proud to have one of the highest rated records for claim-free relocations in the industry. Although Crown takes every precaution to eliminate risk, it is important to note that personal belongings will be traveling on a boat, plane, truck or train – all of which carry inherent risks. This is why Crown offers CrownCare Transit Protection plan with policies that offer full replacement cost coverage on an "all risks" basis.

International CrownCare Transit Protection is underwritten by AXA Corporate Solutions Marine, the world’s leading provider of this type of coverage. Policies offer full replacement cost coverage on a door-to-door, all risks basis.

    Why purchase Transit Protection?

Even the most careful driver, who has taken every precaution to minimise the chances of having an accident, realises the risks associated with operating a motor vehicle. Some of these risks, such as accidents caused by the actions of other motorists, are outside the direct control of that careful driver. This is why even the most careful and especially professional drivers carry protection.

In the same way, Crown staff, and their service partners, are careful and professional in their approach to minimising the risks of loss and damage on your shipment. However, it is important to recognise that there are still risks during transit. This is why we recommend that you protect your shipment properly with a CrownCare Transit Protection Policy.

Your personal insurance policies (homeowners, renters or automobile policies) are unlikely to provide coverage for your goods while they are in transit or located in a foreign country.

    What will this policy cover?

This policy offers "All Risks" coverage from door to door. This will cover partial loss or damage of a shipment, including damage due to riots, war and terrorism at sea and in the air, and breakage, should it occur. It will also cover damage incurred while your belongings are in interim storage at either the origin or the destination warehouse. Stored goods will be covered for up to 60 days at no additional cost under the policy. Additional coverage, if your goods are stored for more than 60 days, is available at a nominal cost per month.

While the policy covers most risks associated with transit, additional protection for the following risks can be added to your policy for a small premium.

    Mold and Mildew

The standard protection policy does not cover your belongings for loss or damage caused by a change in atmospheric conditions (such as humidity) during the course of transit that might lead to mold or mildew. Purchase of this coverage will extend your basic policy to include mold or mildew-based damage. This coverage option is only available if your goods have been professionally packed.

This option is only available if your goods are professionally packed and reimbursement is limited to 75% of the insured value of the shipment.

    Pairs and Sets Coverage

When a damaged item is part of a pair or a set, the policy only covers the replacement or repair of the specific item that has sustained loss or damage.

Example: A three-piece furniture set, comprised of one sofa and two chairs, is included in your shipment. One of the chairs is damaged and requires upholstering. Payment will only be made for the cost of repair to the damaged article, with no consideration for a possible reduction in value of the set.

Example: If an item from a pair or set were lost, payment would be made only for the lost item with no consideration given to the possible reduction in value of the pair or set.

It will not cover any depreciated value as a result of the damaged/missing piece or the possible replacement of the entire set.

If you purchase this coverage, in the event of loss or damage to any item or items forming a pair or set, consideration will now be given for the fair reduction in value of the pair or set, taking into consideration the importance of the lost or damaged item to the pair or set.

    Electronic or Mechanical Derangement

From time to time, an electronic or mechanically operated item will prove to be inoperable upon arriving at its destination. Unless there are clear signs of damage to the exterior of the item or its shipping container, however, the standard policy will not cover this loss. This situation appears most frequently with computer equipment, stereo systems or other devices where intricate components or circuitry are affected by the constant motion of an international shipment.

Purchasing this further coverage option extends your standard policy to include those items without visible damage, assuming they have been professionally packed and are less than six years old. The packing crew must also check that the item(s) are functioning properly at the time of packing.

How do I arrange this coverage?

Simply fill in the CrownCare Transit Protection Application Form, sign it and return it to your Crown Consultant before your personal belongings are picked up.

How do I determine the amount of coverage I will need?

There are two standard options to choose from:

Provide a full and detailed inventory of all your household goods and value them at the amount it would cost to replace them at your destination. You may use either the form provided on the application or, should that prove to be too restrictive, you may simply compile an extremely detailed list which you will attach to your signed application. Please note that ANYTHING NOT DECLARED ON THE INVENTORY FORM IS NOT COVERED BY THIS POLICY.

While the value of shipments can vary greatly, a minimum guideline is US$10 per pound or US$2475 per cubic meter. Our Crown Consultant will be pleased to assist you in determining the proper valuation for your shipment.

An alternative way to providing a detailed, valued inventory of your goods is to declare a lump sum valuation on your shipment.

The lump sum replacement value must not be less than US$12 per pound or US$2750 per cubic meter of your shipment’ net weight or volume, plus a replacement value listing of any items worth US$1500 or greater.

Please refer to our Crown Consultant to assist you in properly valuing your shipment if you choose a lump sum value declaration.

What if my goods are stored at the origin or the destination?

The policy includes up to 60 days storage protection at origin and at destination, provided that the shipment is stored in an enclosed commercial warehouse approved by Crown. It is also possible to obtain an extension of this initial period for an additional premium. Please note that coverage cannot be extended if your shipment is placed in a self-storage warehouse.

What should I do if I have a claim?

Should you note any issues upon delivery that fall under your CrownCare Transit Protection coverage, notify your coordinator immediately and they will provide you with a claim form and instructions to follow for completion of your claim.
