If you want to live and work, study or start a business in Singapore, the first thing you need to do is find and apply for the right visa. This can often be a confusing process with endless information and unclear answers.

How to get a visa to Singapore

Factors affecting which type of visa you will be eligible for include home country, duration of your stay and purpose of stay in Singapore.

Here are a few tips to help you gain an understanding of which visa is the best for you.

Social Visit Pass

This is a type of short-term visa that will allow you to stay in Singapore for a period of up to 90 days. You cannot take up employment on a social visit pass. Social Visit Passes are issued at the border.

Long-Term Visit Pass (LTVP)

People on a social visit pass may apply for a long-term visit pass if they decide that they want to look for employment (also if they want to visit family or accompany a child studying in Singapore). Those wanting a long-term visit pass for the purpose of seeking employment must hold a certificate of education issued by specific institutes of higher learning.

How to Obtain a Visa:

In order to be issued with a visa you will have to provide the following:

  • Passport valid for at least another 6 months
  • Proof of finances that will cover the duration of the stay
