Will I need to drive my own vehicle to conduct my everyday life (work/school/shopping) at my destination?
Inside Munich city, there is a splendidly constructed public transport system. There are no problems in getting to schools, workplaces and shopping areas. At Munich´s outlying suburbs, public transport is provided in some areas; others have few or no public transport system.

How can I legally drive a vehicle in this city?
The national driving license is valid up to 6 months after the registration of residence in Germany.
During this time, one can apply for the German driving license. The procedure of application depends on the federal state. In some areas, it is sufficient to file an application at the particular administration; in others, it is necessary to take a practical and theoretical examination and a first-aid course at a German driving school as well as an eyesight test.

Describe typical public transportation an expat might use to get around the city.
Underground trains (U-Bahn), buses, tram ways and city trains (S-Bahn) can be used to get around the Munich city center.

City trains (S-Bahn) also reach Munich suburbs. Trains can be used to reach other cities. Trains normally start from Munich central station; some trains can be boarded also at Munich east station (Ostbahnhof) or west station (Pasing).

In regards to transportation, are there any safety issues I should be aware of?
Munich´s crime rate is very low, but as everywhere you should be aware of your luggage and handbags.

Where do I buy tickets/tokens/etc. for the major public transportation?
You can find ticket machines at every train, city train (S-Bahn) and underground train (U-Bahn) station.

There are information desks at Munich central station, east station (Ostbahnhof), west station (Pasing) and at some other stations where staff members can help you.
