India: new employment visas introduced

To promote the territory’s business community and the film industry, the Indian immigration authority has introduced two new types of visas, Intern (I) visa and Film (F) visa. The new policy is effective immediately but there is not yet an official announcement. An Indian Employment visa was formerly issued to applicants in these categories.

Details of new type visas:

  1. Intern (I) visa
    1. for those foreign nationals who have recently completed studies at university or graduate school and seek an internship in corporations, educational institutions and non-governmental organizations (NGOs) in India
    2. the internship period cannot be longer than 1 year
    3. a minimum annual salary of INR 780,000 (Note: educational institutions and NGOs are exempted from this requirement)
    4. the visa holder is not allowed to convert to any other type of visa
    5. the granted visa is issued with an endorsement of “For internship with XXXX(India Company Name)”
  2. Film (F) visa
    1. for those foreign nationals seek to shoot movies or television shows in India
    2. The stay cannot be longer than 1 year
    3. Multiple Entry will be granted
