Crown donates £100,000 to Charity of the Year - DEBRA

We are pleased to announce that Crown Worldwide Group has presented a cheque for the grand total of £100,000 from funds raised to its 2011/2012 UK & Ireland ‘Charity of the Year’, DEBRA.
Large novelty check

DEBRA is a national charity that supports individuals and families affected by Epidermolysis Bullosa (EB), a genetic skin blistering condition. EB is caused by a breakdown in the natural proteins that hold the skin and internal membranes together resulting in painful sores and blisters which have to be lanced and dressed daily – a painful procedure, taking hours. This devastating condition affects one in 17,000 births and there are at least 5,000 people with EB in the UK.
Barry Koolen (Regional Managing Director – UK, Ireland and Northern Europe for Crown Worldwide Group) presented the cheque to DEBRA’s CEO, Ben Merrett, in a special ceremony held at Crown’s Enfield office in north London. The money raised will enable DEBRA to provide on-going specialist care and support to those affected by EB, and continue to search for effective treatments and, ultimately, a cure for EB.
Staff from across Crown’s UK and Ireland locations have made a tremendous fundraising effort over the past 18 months, covering a variety of activities, including a 250 foot long zip wire ride, a 150 foot abseil and a gruelling London to Paris three day cycle. Other initiatives included a terrifying jump from the world’s highest bungee, staff quiz nights, cake sales, collection buckets, a number of raffles, a ‘wear green to work day’ and a black tie gala dinner, to name just a few.
David Hollins, Regional General Manager for Crown Relocations, said: “It’s been a privilege to raise money for DEBRA. Our teams across the country have shown incredible enthusiasm and dedication throughout the year. DEBRA is a great charity that does amazing things for those with EB, so it’s an honour for Crown to be able to support the work they do.”
John Parker, Regional Fundraising Manager for DEBRA, commented: “The team at Crown Worldwide Group have been outstanding in their fundraising efforts and I want to thank them all. The money they have donated will allow us to continue our holistic approach to our care from birth, for as long as it’s needed and will enable us to continue supporting individuals and families affected by EB.”
We are now looking to focus fundraising efforts on Crown’s 2013 chosen ‘Charity of the Year’, Brain Tumour Buddies, a national charity committed to providing information and support to anyone affected by a high grade brain tumour.
