Foreign property owners gain new residency rights in changes to Turkish immigration law

Foreign nationals who intend to buy real estate in Turkey will now be eligible to apply for a one-year residence permit. The new ”Foreigners and International Protection” law, which came into effect on April 12, 2014, extends the duration of the initial residence permit from three months to one year for foreigners buying property in Turkey.

Unless the property is sold, the property-based residence permit will be renewed annually for one year, and  those who reside continuously in Turkey for eight years will gain permanent residence.
