Celebrating the 4th of July with parades, parties and fireworks is a great all-American tradition. And Huntington Beach, California, a vibrant beach city in southern California, celebrates it in style! In fact, the celebration goes on for three days of fun with activities for everyone.4th of July flag

The celebration starts with the Pier Plaza Festival, July 3 to July 5. The festival, which takes place at the famous Huntington Beach pier, sees throngs of beachgoers enjoying the exhibitors, food vendors, family entertainment and playing on the beach.

On July 4, you can start your day early by attending the Kiwanis Club Lake Park Breakfast where they’ll be serving up a great pancake breakfast, one of the organization’s biggest fundraisers.

Experienced runners and stroller-pushing families alike take part in the Surf City 5K Run, starting with the Residents Run and finishing with the Kids Run. At the race’s end, visit the Health and Fitness Expo to see a variety of health products and fitness vendors.

Then it’s time for the main event: the 111th Huntington Beach 4th of July Parade! An estimated 100,000 people line both sides of Main Street – with its red-white-and-blue-decorated houses – to thrill at the two-hour event, which is the longest parade west of the Mississippi River! Celebrities and hometown heroes preside over the parade as it winds down Main Street to the Civic Center. Participants include award-winning marching bands, dancing horses, decorated floats and so much more! Bring plenty of water and sunscreen.

Spend the rest of your day at the beach enjoying the surf and sand or riding brightly decorated bicycles around town, chatting with friendly locals and visitors alike, or perhaps barbequing with family and friends.

As the day winds down, you can finish up your day of fun (that is, if you can keep your eyes open!) with a dazzling fireworks show over the Huntington Beach Pier, a 25-minute show that rivals any in the nation. Years past have recorded 1,300 rounds of bursting fireworks, with 500 alone in the last few seconds of the finale!  A magnificent way to end America’s Independence Day for another year.
