Global companies moving to Amsterdam: is this the new European capital?

After the historic Brexit vote it looks like Amsterdam may be in line to be the new European hub for global companies. It’s easy to see the draw to Amsterdam for major global companies as well as people looking to develop their international careers.

International city

Amsterdam has one of the best airports in Europe and is a centre for international commerce that businesses are beginning to gravitate towards. As well as excellent railway connections, meaning that it is well connected to the rest of Europe and the world. With a global village charm, there is room for businesses to grow in this vibrant compact city.

Many European headquarters already

The Metropolitan area of Amsterdam is currently home to more than 2,700 international companies and attracting more than 100 new foreign companies every year. This includes big brands such as Tommy Hilfiger and Tesla as well as Dutch companies like Heineken and Shell. Last year Mitsubishi UFJ Financial Group, the biggest bank in Japan expanded its office in Amsterdam. They are also relocating staff from the London base to strengthen their new Amsterdam operations.

The appeal of Amsterdam

It’s easy to see why companies and their staff would be keen to relocate here. Amsterdam has one of the lowest costs of living in Europe. A mecca of cultural diversity, there is also a lot to see and do that will cover all tastes. There are world class museums like the Van Gogh Museum and the Rijksmuseum. As well as unique experiences like the Prinsengracht Concert, where audiences can listen from boats or the canal side while the music is performed on a pontoon on the canal.
