On February 4, we reached our 50th anniversary and celebrations took place across the globe.

Back in 1965, Jim Thompson started Crown from a tiny cubicle in Yokohama, Japan. To say thank you to the city for hosting us for 50 years, Jim presented the Mayor of Yokohama, Fumiko Hayashi, with special tributes in the Japanese city. Still today, Japan is one of our key markets and remains a special place to both Jim and Crown.

The first tribute was a specially-designed Happi coat that incorporates a ginkgo leaf design, a symbol of longevity in Japan, and the other was an exclusive art work painted by seven-year-old Barbora Mrvisova of the Slovak Republic for the Kids Earth Fund, a charity that raises money to help children who suffer from the result of war, poverty and environmental contamination. The money donated for this artwork will go to a school in Cambodia that supports children with HIV.

The “Crown story” is an interesting one, which you can read for yourself here.

As a result of this special meeting, we received some fantastic global press coverage on websites such as Yahoo FinanceCNBC and Bloomberg Business.
