In case you are planning an international relocation from Spain, we recommend to have a look at the recent Mercer report about the world’s safest cities and also about the most dangerous cities. According to Mercer’s global survey, expats who are concerned about their safety should focus on relocating either to cities in Luxembourg, Switzerland or in Austria, which are overall considered the safest countries to live for expats. On the other, however, among the high risk locations for professional expats there have been named the following cities: Baghdad (Iraq), Damascus (Syria), Karachi (Pakistan) and Nairobi (Kenya). Further high risk zones are considered in Nigeria and Lebanon. These regions not only are risky, but also present a financial challenge for international employers, who have to cover high expenses in order to guarantee safer housing options to their corporate assignees. Some European cities lost positions in the ranking, in particular Paris has been ranked only on position 71 due to recent terror attacks. In the USA, the top ranked cities regarding safety are Chicago, Houston and Honolulu, which are all listed on position 54. Mercer rated 230 cities based on factors such as internal stability, crime level, performance of local law enforcement as well as relationships with other countries.
