Relocating alone- what to expect

Explore your surroundings

Once you know where you are going to live discover what is around you. You can do this through searching online before you arrive, looking on expat groups online and also by asking the many locals you will meet when you arrive. This will also be a great way to introduce yourself to your new neighbours and potentially make some new friends.

Say yes!

When you arrive everything will be new and you won’t already have a routine like you did before. So if you find an event or activity available in your neighbourhood give it a go, you may love it or not but you won’t know unless you try.

Don’t forget you are also a tourist

Yes this is not a holiday but it is still a new place for you to explore in your free time. Don’t forget to take some time to explore the local culture that your new home has to offer. Take a look at our destination guides for inspiration.

Embrace the differences

It’s easy when you arrive to look for things that remind you of home. Because that is comfortable and all that you know. But this is all new to you, it is supposed to be different. That is part of the adventure, that unknowing what to expect. So don’t look for home in your new environment enjoy the new things that are different to what you are used to.

All you have to do is try

If you try as much as you can no matter if it’s a short term stay or more permanent you will look back on this time as a great learning experience. You’ll test your limits and discover just how determined you can be when you are on your own putting yourself outthere to experience as much as possible.
