Immigration to Switzerland: EU nationals’ requirements

If you are planning to move to Switzerland, please be aware of the following g immigration update: As of June 1, 2016, Romanian and Bulgarian workers who have local Swiss employment contracts will be subject to a similar registration process as other EU nationals.

Before, they were subject to the quota system and a Swiss labor market test – including salary and employment conditions checks. Terms of employment had to be in line with conditions applicable in the work canton and relevant industry/sector.

This progressive liberalization of the Swiss market is a consequence of the Free Movement of Persons Agreement (2009). Switzerland has reserved the right to re-introduce labor market tests until the end of May 2019, where the influx of foreigners from these countries exceeds the average of the previous three years by 10%.
