Your assignment to Switzerland: The immigration process

Switzerland is one of the most desired and popular places to live. Immigration to SwitzerlandExpats should consider some important rules regarding the Swiss immigration process and requirements to work in the country.

As an EU-25/EFTA national, you can easily go to Switzerland and start working on a local contract.

However, if you are assigned to Switzerland for one year for example, the process is very different and the employer is required to complete an immigration service before you can start working.

This is because the Free Movement of Persons Act (Freizügigkeitsabkommen) does not cover the above mentioned scenario.

To ensure the assignment starts on time, plan for enough lead time to collect documents, make translations or request any signatures. Documents are required from the employee and the employer. Processing time varies from canton to canton.

It is important that the EU national being assigned to Switzerland does not start working before being properly approved by the relevant Swiss authorities.
