How to prepare for utilities when moving house?

Month Before your move

  •  Get your essential utilities sorted early.
Sign up with our partner Please Connect Me – where a team of experts will handle all your essential utility registrations and help set up great deals for broadband, TV, energy, mobile, insurance and more.

  •  Find a broadband package.
Setting up an internet connection can take up to 4 weeks in some properties, so make sure to leave enough time.

  •  Use a Combined Bills service.
Having bills from multiple companies can be very hard to manage, especially when payments are going out of the account at different times. You can also reduce the number of payments each month with a combined bill service. Choose if you want to pay standards like Council Tax, Energy and Water together every month or manage three separate direct debits or monthly bills.

  •  Update your insurance.
Contact your provider to make sure you’re covered from the day you move, and make sure to add on new items and remove the things you’re getting rid of. Not got insurance, Crown Relocations has partnered with companies like AXA Insurance, International Citizens Insurance, and VisitorsCoverage to cover all your insurance needs when relocating to your new destination.

Weeks Before your move

  •  Let your current energy supplier know you’re moving.
The supplier should close your account on the day you leave and forward the final bill to your new address.

  •  Book an end of tenancy deep clean.
If you have no plans to deep clean the old property by yourself, the right thing to do is to book a professional service.

  •  Contact your new home current suppliers.
Contact the current energy company supplying the new address and inform them when you are moving in. Gas & Electricity will be connected when you first arrive, however it is your responsibility to contact the current supplier and inform them about the move.

  •  Switch Gas & Electricity to a better tariff.
You will need to be registered with the current supplier firstly, but then you’re free to switch to a more reliable fixed-rate tariff or a supplier with better price for the services.

  •  Register with your new Council.
This is dependent on how far you are moving; you might have to update your account or open an entirely new one when relocating internationally. If you are changing local council authorities, you must let both your old and new Council know about the move.

  •  Water supplier Registration
When you are relocating over a longer distance and international boarders, you will need to find your new water supply provider and register with your new address. The water supplier will be determined by the area you will live in. This is far easier If you are moving locally, where it could be the same supplier. However, you are still obliged to let them about the move.

  •  Local Car parking
When you move into your new home, and you have a driveway or parking space, in alpha++ cities you could earn money by renting the space to other drivers. However, when your new home has controlled parking, you will need to register with your new local council to get a parking permit to be allowed to park overnight in the council area.

Moving Day!

  •  New Address Deep Cleaning.
When you are about to move into your new property, it is always a good idea to check if an end-of-tenancy clean has been done. If not, this will be the time to deep clean your new home or let a professional deep clean service in. You can do this before your moving day; however, it is much easier to clean a properly once all the furniture has been removed.

At Your New Destination

  •  Get your broadband installed.
Getting internet installed & working does take time, depending on your new property situation. To book an engineer to connect your broadband, you need to be at the property. Book the appointment as close as possible to moving day. However, if you need to be connected right away, please see the Crown Relocations Communications Partner Airalo, where a game-changer in the realm of global connectivity.

  •  Get your first bills.
In the first 4 to 6 weeks at your new address, you will receive your first bills via the postal service, granted you have registered with the suppliers.
