Fighting hunger in the Los Angeles and Chicago communities

Crown Relocations’ employees in the Los Angeles, CA and Chicago, IL offices have joined community members to sponsor local food drives benefitting children and families in need.

The Los Angeles office teamed up with the Huntington Beach Public Library to sponsor a summer food drive benefitting local children in Orange County during Hunger Awareness Week in July. Crown organized and promoted the event by gathering non-perishable food items and helped spread the word through social media and community networking. Crown’s Sheryl Cherry and Erika Reardon helped kick off the week representing Move For Hunger (MFH) during a panel discussion with community members at the library where donors could drop off their canned goods and learn how individuals can do their part to help.

“Most kids look forward to summer vacation, enjoying family trips, fun in the sun and no homework.  However, some kids do not due to their circumstances and we can do something about that.” Said Erika Reardon, receptionist at Crown’s LA Office.

Crown Relocations has shown consistent support and met numerous challenges to make the communities they work and live in a better place through their Corporate Social Responsibility initiatives. Crown Relocations successfully met the challenge during Hunger Awareness week and delivered 542 pounds of food, equaling 451 meals to the Second Harvest Food Bank of Orange County.

In fact, in the month of July, a very busy month for the relocations industry, the team in Chicago was able to collect food donations from clients relocating in their local community. Each month MFH recognizes a moving company that shows great effort and dedication to their mission to reduce food waste and help those in need. Last year Crown’s Chicago office was honored by MFH as the March 2015 Mover of the Month. To the date, since February 2010 the Chicago team has worked hard and collected over 40,000 pounds of food, equaling over 30,330 meals for residents in the local area.  On top of that the Chicago staff partnered with local business including Wal-Mart, Caputo’s Fresh Market and Jewl-Osco to rescue all of their unsellable, perishable goods and deliver them to local food banks in Chicago.

“The team at Crown Relocations is honored to be part of such a great cause.  We’re always eager to find new ways to have a positive impact on our community and help those in need,” said Chicago General Manager, Jamison Roudabush.
