“5-minute shower challenge” encourages Hong Kong staff to save water and combat global warming

On July 25, Crown Hong Kong made a pledge to commit to the ‘5-minute shower challenge’ organized by Green Power Hong Kong.5-minute shower challenge Hong Kong’s daily water usage generates 1,500 tonnes of carbon dioxide which contributes to global warming. Saving water by practicing a 5-minute shower helps reduce 11 kg of carbon dioxide every year towards an annual cut of 78,000 tones for Hong Kong.

Some 50 employees committed to take up this challenge by restricting their shower time to 5 minutes for one year, using a sandglass to monitor the time spent. Crown Hong Kong will continue to devote time to being a greener and sustainable business.

Tips to save water:

•  Reduce shower time to 5 minutes

•  Turn off the tap while brushing teeth, soaping hands and shaving

•  Use sink or container filled with water for washing vegetables. Do not keep the water running.

•  Run washing machine only with full load, avoiding half load unless really necessary.

•  Fix dripping taps
