INTERVIEW WITH RADIO MARCONI: IS IT REALLY EASY TO ESCAPE ABROAD AND LEAVE EVERYTHING BEHIND?

Is it really that easy to escape abroad and leave everything behind?
Our Country Manager for Italy, Francisco Schenone explains it well; talking about it in a radio interview with Radio Marconi!
 RADIO
If candidate X, candidate Y or Z wins, I run away and go abroad, I'm not staying in Italy anymore.

In almost all cases it is a simple joke, but would it really be that simple to leave Italy and change your life, going to another country?

We talk about it together with Francisco Schenone who is the Italian Country Manager of the Crown Worldwide Group.

Hello and welcome.

FRANCISCO
Goodmorning Bruno.

RADIO
Let’s start perhaps with the most difficult thing, that would be the question of language, because on average we Italians, we are not really wizards with English…

FRANCISCO
You are right, in fact this is a challenge that I had in moving to Italy 6 years ago. As you hear from the accent, I am from Argentina and I was then able to perfect my Italian. But I must say that my experience is that these days English has become much and much more a needed characteristic for people, professionals try to improve it. They care about it a lot.

RADIO
In short, this would be the first obstacle; then speaking for a moment about the destinations, those that have welcomed more Italians according to Crown Relocations, which is a company that offers services for international relocation, the countries that have attracted more Italians in recent years are the United Kingdom, the United States and Germany.

Then beware, one chooses the country also based on ambitions, that is, maybe one prefers a particular country, for example Canada for civil rights, someone else instead another country to start their own business.

How are the choices outlined here?

FRANCISCO
You are absolutely right. The United Kingdom continues to be number 1 for Italians, it already was before, then with Brexit there was some doubt; but then it hasn't really changed. I would add Spain as a destination to that list.

RADIO
Well, perhaps also because we are culturally quite close, Italians and Spanish people, then perhaps someone chooses Spain also for the question of civil rights. But then there are other reasons that push an Italian to go abroad: for example, young people want to start a business and it is not easy to do it here in Italy.

FRANCISCO
Yes, some of the countries that offer more ease in this regard are certainly the United States, but here it is difficult to obtain permits before going. That is definitely an obstacle. The UK has a very high ranking. There is also Australia as a destination that has recently grown and climbed on the ranking of requests, especially for young Italians.

RADIO
And then there is another problem though, now it's not that we want to discourage people from going abroad if they want, but maybe one chooses a destination, they say - Perfect I'm going to Australia, Spain - or wherever they want, but also there as soon as you arrive, it's not that easy to organise your life when you change country.

FRANCISCO
Absolutely no. The impact of changing countries is underestimated; because even in a place that can be culturally similar there is always a linguistic, cultural and past barrier of the local culture. You get used to it huh! Indeed, sometimes people who move are certainly better off than at home, especially if they do it voluntarily. But I must say that the beginning is always, always hard, always difficult. It is not for everyone to make such a radical change of life. I would add that many say - I'm going to try for six months, a year, I see how things are and come back -. The reality is that it is not easy to return. Usually once there you will definitely stay longer.

RADIO
People don’t return to the country of origin because they have become accustomed to the destination or are there other factors?

FRANCISCO
Because you get used to the country you went to, because you know people and you get used to it, no one likes to go back immediately before being successful. One tries as long as he can feel satisfied and then saying - I miss Italy, I would like to go back - is not so obvious. No, because travelling, living in another place, you get to know other realities and nothing returns to be the same, therefore returning to Italy to the life that one remembers, is no longer possible because the same person has changed,  it's no longer the same personality. It happens eh!

In reality, many have a 2-3 years experience to make a career, to improve a resume, or for personal reasons. Surely remote working now gives us this extra possibility, but it is not a decision to be taken lightly.

RADIO
In short, before saying I'll take, run away and go abroad, however, you have to think about it a little, although it can really be a very, very rewarding experience. I thank Francisco Schenone, Italian Country Manager of Crown Worldwide Group for being with us today and thank you for this chat about escaping, going abroad, fleeing your country. I wish you good luck and a good continuation of the day.

FRANCISCO
Thank you very much for the invitation!
