Our 2024 Global Expatriate Survey brings together insights from 1,000 expats across seven key destinations (UAE, U.K., Germany, U.S., India, Singapore and Australia), uncovering the latest trends shaping the expat experience.
Key findings:
- Cultural adaptation is getting harder: 65% of expats find adjusting to a new culture difficult, especially those who have relocated multiple times. We ask why.
- Tech is a double-edged sword: 70% of expats struggled to adapt to new tech ecosystems, particularly in societies with an emphasis on “going cashless”. Does this reflect the widely reported “tech bifurcation” we are increasingly seeing?
- Sustainability in moving: Over half of expats have taken steps to make their move more environmentally friendly, from using recycled packing materials to minimizing waste.
- Children, however, are adjusting well: 86% of expat parents report that their children have settled into their new environments smoothly, with many seeing positive educational and social outcomes. We speculate: Is this because of a more globally homogenized youth culture?
